Participatory design sessions using different techniques and inviting key family members to participate and to determine the uses of space. I chose the lunch time (between eleven o’clock in the morning and two in the afternoon) to visit families; obtaining the permission of the head of the household to observe women while cooking and preparing the main meal of the day. This was also the time when children would return from school, and it was a good opportunity to observe their movement around the house. In this picture, a husband and his wife made this floorplan with a proper scale using breeze blocks.
